James died in hospice at the Prestige Care Center in Gresham on Wednesday night, February 21st, at the age of 65 from complications of COPD.
Jim was born in Portland and was a life long Oregonian. He attended Roosevelt High School, Haskell Indian School in Lawrence, Kansas and studied at Portland Community College. He worked at Tektronix and as a custodian with Portland Public Schools.
Jim is survived by a son Christopher, daughter Florence (Gabriel) Wiggins, three sisters, Sharon Crews, Fern (David) Gatewood, of Reno, Nevada and Carol (Andre) Stewart of Gresham. He is also survived by three grandchildren, three nephews, three nieces, an uncle, several cousins and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents Delbert Beers and Katherine Carroll, an infant daughter Jennifer, a niece Karen Sue Cooley, twin infant nephews, three uncles, two aunts, and five cousins. Most recently his uncle Frank Eakin of Oklahoma died just eight days prior to Jim's passing.
A Memorial Mass is scheduled for 1:30 PM, Saturday, March 10th, 2018 at St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Portland, reception following. Private inurnment at Wilhelm Portland Memorial.
