Homer Wayne Herald passed away on April 20, 2018 at the age of 96. He was the son of Gertrude and Homer C. Herald. He had two sisters. He was called Homer by a few of his childhood clasmates, but otherwise was known as Wayne. His tales of childhood told of life on a farm.........milking the cow, plowing the garden, and years of delivering the town newspaper. He graduated from Eastern Oregon College in 1942. He went on to graduate from Stanford University in 1957, with a Doctor's Degree in Education.
In 1943, Wayne married Margaret Judd of Payette, Idaho. Together they moved to Lake Oswego, Oregon where he served as school principal for seven years. Later he transferred on to the Portland School District, and was principal at Shattuck, Mutlnomah, Mt. Tabor and Laurelhurst schools. In 1950 he served as State President of the Oregon Elementary Principals' Assoc.
In 1957 Wayne and Margaret along with their two young daughters moved to California where Wayne became Deputy Superintendent of the Sunnyvale School District. He retired in 1985 and moved to Fairway Village in Vancouver, Washington, where he lived until Margaret passed away in 2005. In 2006 he moved to Enumclaw, Washington to be closer to family.
Among Wayne's hobbies, were fly fishing and flower gardening. His greatest joy and passion was his family.
Wayne is survived by his two daughters, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Interment is at River View Cemetery in Portland, Oregon
