Don was born in Portland, Oregon and raised in the Sellwood neighborhood. He spent 10 years of his life in San Francisco, California, and considered it his second home. Don passed away peacefully in his home in Gresham, Oregon, surrounded by his children.
Don graduated from Grover Cleveland High School and served in the U.S. NAVY. He worked as a truck driver, cab driver, and was most-notably a Tri-Met bus operator for 25 years. He loved to drive. You could frequently find him behind the wheel of a fast car, blasting his music on his way to California or the Oregon coast.
Don loved sports, especially football. He was a huge San Francisco 49ers fan. He was also an OSU Beavers fan along with the Portland Trail Blazers and the San Francisco Giants. His kids often enjoyed catching a game with him.
Don was well liked by everyone he met. He received many commendations from his passengers and he always had a lot of spunk. He was kind, caring, and loved his family and friends. He is survived by his daughters, Kathy Aker, Debbie Phillips, and Angela Jaramillo, his son Duane Phillips. Siblings Shirley Owen, John Pucik, Terri Pucik, Carole Pucik, and Mike Pucik. Grandchildren, Shawna Runells, Amber Ortizi, Nathan Aker, and Olivia Jaramillo. Great-Grand Children, Ashley and Jacob Runells.
We all love and miss Don but are thankful he is no longer suffering. A memorial service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland on Thursday Feb 22, 2018 at 2:30 pm with a reception to follow at Veteran’s of Foreign Wars at 7118 SE Fern Ave. Portland, Or. 97206
