Ruth was born in Ida Grove, Iowa to Henry J. and Johanna Jacobsen Rehse. In 1942 she left for Portland, Oregon to marry Clifford Zadow where they lived and raised their family. She passed away from natural causes.
Ruth was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, Iowa. After moving to Portland, Ruth and Cliff became lifelong members of Immanuel Lutheran Church. There she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years and she was also involved in various church organizations, from Altar Guild to Walther League. Faith and service were a way of life for her.
Holding a variety of jobs over her life, at 65 she retired after 18 years from her position as a shipping clerk in retail sales.
Hospitality was Ruth's passion. She loved to cook and bake. Her service to others was often seen and felt by others enjoying her cookies, cakes, and delicious dishes. This was how she shared her love to family, friends and strangers. Ruth also loved gardening, sharing her vegetables and flowers with neighbors and friends.
Ruth is survived by four of her five children and spouses, Grant (Peggy), Mark (Diane), Joyce Winternheimer, June Arnoldy (Marty); 16 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great Great Grandchildren. Her husband Clifford, oldest daughter Esther, granddaughter Joset and son-in-law Wayne have gone before her to welcome her into heaven.
A celebration of her life will be held at 4 pm Sunday July 30, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 7810 S.E. 15th, Portland, Oregon 97202
In lieu of flowers the family honors her wishes and requests donations to Immanuel Lutheran Church and Bethesda Auxiliary Missouri Synod.
