Loren Lee BrooksAugust 5, 1928 ~ August 24, 2017 (age 89)
Loren Lee Brooks (89), of Milwaukie, Oregon passed away at home from complications of kidney disease. He was born in Des Moine, Iowa to Godfrey and Mildred Brooks.
Loren spent a hitch in the Navy from 1945 - 1949 afterwards continuing his love for boats as a tugboat deckhand and Captain for Knapton, Brix Maritime and FOSS. He spent 45 years navigating high waters, snow storms, wind and fog. He described his days on the river as “hours and hours of boredom, mixed with moments of sheer panic.” He retired from life on the Columbia River in 1995.
After retiring Loren spent his time hunting, golfing, playing poker with his buddies, sharing jokes and tales of his journey through life. He was very involved with the Sherwood Elks Lodge and served in the capacities of Esquire and Exalted Ruler. He enjoyed life to the fullest until just recently.
Loren is survived by his wife, Marilee of 39 years, and nine children: Michael, Connie, Shelly, Ronni, Ronda, Leslie, David, Larry and Paul. Also survived by too many grandchildren and great grandchildren to count! He was preceded in death by his son Loren Brooks Jr. To those closest to him he was “Captain Grandpa Sir”, Pop, Father, or just Dad. He was loved by all and we will miss his quick wit, sense of humor and our time with him.
Smooth Sailing Captain!
A private interment will be held at Wilhelm’s Portland Memorial Funeral Home.
A celebration of life is scheduled for September 17 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sherwood Elks Lodge, 22770 SW Elwert Road in Sherwood, Oregon.
