Ida (Hansen) OlsonDecember 6, 1921 ~ January 23, 2017 (age 95)
On January 23rd the Lord wrapped his arms around our mother as she passed away in peace, surrounded by her family. She was 95.
Ida was born in Portland Oregon and the daughter of John and Ida Hansen of Pleasant Valley Oregon. She was ninth out of fourteen brothers and sister whom she adored. They all have preceded her in death.
After high school Ida worked as a housekeeper and when the war broke out she worked in the Portland ship yards during WWII as a riveter! In 1943 she entered the Military. She was a Staff Sergeant in the WAC from 1943-1946 and received an Honorable Discharge. After the war she attended Western Chiropractic College and graduated in 1950. She worked as a masseuse which she enjoyed immensely.
She married the love of her life, Carl Olson, on September 29, 1951. She and Carl adopted 3 beautiful children. During the raising of the children Ida also kept busy with dog grooming, caring for foster children, landscaping and gardening. In 1970 Ida began a career in the United States Postal Service and retired in 1986. She and her husband enjoyed travel and visited many countries during her retirement and she continued her travels after his death. She was very active in her congregation at Gethsemane Lutheran Church and was a member since 1964.
Ida is survived by her children Patty Olson, Cindy Olson (Bill Martin) and Steve Olson (Patty) as well as 7 grandchildren and 10 great children and many nieces and nephews. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the love of her life.
Service will be held at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 11560 SE Market Portland Oregon February 11, 2017 at 11am and she will be laid to rest beside her husband at Willamette National Cemetery.
