Douglas F. McKillipsMarch 27, 1945 ~ October 13, 2017 (age 72)
Douglas Fulton McKillips was born in Portland, Oregon, March 27, 1945.
He spent a year of his childhood in Florida and another in Pendleton but most of his growing up was done in Lake Oswego. He graduated from Lake Oswego High School in 1963.
After spending time in Vietnam with the Marine Corps, he returned to Portland getting serious about his education and earning a Master’s Degree from Portland State University. He spent a year teaching in the David Douglas School District before becoming one of Portland’s finest. He remained on the Portland Police force for 26 years before injuries from a car accident forced him to retire.
Doug met his wife, Lisa and daughter, Monica in 1980 and they soon became a family. Hiking, backpacking, skiing, boating and remodeling all became family adventures. Doug loved his family, his country, animals and the great outdoors.
A man of few words, Doug was fiercely loyal, protective – always taking care of those he loved – kind and thoughtful and had a great sense of humor. If you earned his friendship, there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for you.
Doug is survived by his wife Lisa; daughter Monica and son in-law John; 5 beautiful grandchildren, Annalisa, Quinton, Simon, Trent and Abby; and his sister Kathy Brown of Laguna Beach, California.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to Wounded Warriors Project, Veterans of Foreign Wars or any deserving organization that reminds you of Doug.
A Celebration of Doug's life will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Calvin Presbyterian Church, 10445 SW Canterbury Lane, Tigard, OR 97224
Please feel free to leave a condolence for Lisa and the family.
